What is the Disabled Shooters Group?

The DSG is the national body for disabled clay target shooting , recognised officially by the British International Target Shooting Federation (BICTSF) which, under the auspices of UK Sport, controls the selection of Great Britain teams for international events. Our main aims - to offer clay shooting for disabled people of all levels of skill and ability, including the opportunity to officially represent Great Britain. For more details please see FAQ's.

We are now entering our 13th year and our numbers have swelled to over fifty. This is either due to more people hearing about us, or the Disability Rights Act is drawing more of us out of the house. Our group meets approximately once a month, mainly in the summer; the days shoot includes various competitions with trophies in all classes. Some of the DSG members have been selected to shoot for the Great Britain Team at European and World class events, bringing home both gold and silver medals.

Is it expensive I hear you say? Well it can be, but depends on what you call expensive. One man's expensive is another man's cheap. A good guideline is clay shooting is as costly as you want it to be. As with golf you can buy a set of clubs for thousands of pounds or just a few hundred, the same applies to shotguns, the main difference being that anyone can buy golf clubs, but you do need a licence issued by the local Police Authority to buy a shotgun.

DSG membership is not just for wheelchair users, anybody with a listed disability can join and of course family, friends and carers are also welcomed as able-bodied members, whose support and help is always appreciated within the group. As you look through the site hopefully you will see something of interest which could lead to a whole new lease of life, meeting some new friends, getting out and about and enjoying what life has to offer.

Most gun clubs have club guns you can use and usually encourage newcomers to “have a go” sessions before deciding to take things further with a course of lessons. So really there is no reason why you don't find your nearest club and give it a go.
